Important Grammar Note!

In French, there's a simple yet extremely helpful rule which will make you look like you really know your stuff.

The rule is as follows:

You can never, ever say 'à le', 'à les', 'de le' or 'de les'.

Instead, there's a handy little word - 'du', which replaces 'de le' (oops, just said it myself.)

But if the noun (thing/object/place) is feminine, ('la'), then it's easy peasy. You just say 'de la'. If it's plural ('les'), then you use 'des' (instead of 'de les'.)

The same applies for 'à le' - it becomes 'au', and 'à la' stays the same. If it's plural ('les'), you say 'aux' (instead of 'à les'.)

Here are some examples:

'C'est près du théâtre'='It's close to the theatre'.

'Je vais au supermarché'='I'm going to the supermarket'

'Ce n'est pas loin de la bibliothèque'='It's not far from the library'.

'Elle va à la gare'='She's going to the station'.

'Il a des pommes'='He has some apples'.

'Nous allons aux toilettes'='We are going to the toilet'.

C'est tout !
