Important Grammar Note!

It's all very well knowing the sports themselves, but how can you use them in context?

Glad you asked! If you want to describe playing a sport, you just use the verb 'jouer' (to play), then add 'à la', 'au' or 'aux', then the sport - it's as simple as that!

There are, however, a few exceptions, where 'faire de' is used rather than 'jouer à'. 'Faire de' is used with the words in blue, whereas 'jouer à' is used with the words in red.

Examples:

'J'aime jouer au foot'='I like playing football'

'Nous jouons au rugby deux fois par semaine'='We play rugby twice a week'

'Ils font de la natation'='They swim'
