Conditional Grammar - Lesson 1/1
Lesson 1
The conditional tense is used to talk about what would be (in an ideal world.) An example of this is 'je pourrais parler couramment français si j'utilisais Linguafy plus souvent'='I would be able to speak fluent French if I used Linguafy more often'.
To form the conditional tense, just use this simple formula:
Subject + verb + ending
All you have to do is say the person ('je' for example), then the verb, and finally just add the ending!
The endings in the conditional tense are exactly the same as those in the imperfect tense. Here they are:
Worried about irregulars? No need to be! The irregulars in the conditional tense are exactly the same as in the true future tense, so if you don't know your stuff, learn it here!
Examples:
'Si je pouvais, j'achèterais une nouvelle voiture rouge'='If I could, I would buy a new red car'
'Nous serions plus sympas s'il nous aidait'='We'd be nicer if he helped us'
'Je mangerais plus de nourriture, mais je mets au régime'='I would eat more food, but I'm (going) on a diet'
The conditional tense goes hand-in-hand with the imperfect tense, and is used to say what would happen in an ideal world.
For example:
'Si j'avais plus d'argent, j'achèterais un manoir'='If I had more money, I'd buy a mansion'
*Would be 'j' here, as 'aurais' begins with a vowel
